Waterloo Housing Group has started work on a development of 56 affordable new homes in Stourport Road, Kidderminster.
The £4.7m residential development will include semi-detached and terraced houses, with 23 properties for shared ownership and 33 for rent. It will help to meet the need for more affordable housing within a district where house prices are predicted to increase by 20% by 2020 and rental prices by 38%. The homes are being built for Waterloo by Thomas Vale Construction’s housing division on the former Reilloc Chain site, which was previously used for the manufacture of chains and heavy industrial works. They are designed to comply with level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, ensuring they are energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Jason Clarke, Project Manager at Waterloo Housing Group, said: “We are pleased to be working with Wyre Forest District Council and locally-based contractor Thomas Vale Construction to bring this brownfield site into use for affordable housing."
Ian Cox, Housing Development Director at Thomas Vale Construction, commented: “This is excellent news for the region. We are keen to ensure that our local supply chain is actively involved in transforming this site."
All the homes are expected to be completed by February 2015.
