As the Dallington showhome is was recently unveiled on our Trentside development in Nottingham, we asked our interior design partners, Edward Thomas Interiors for a sneak peek on its design. Client account manager, Rebecca Jones previews what house hunters can expect to discover…

Did you follow a theme or style for the Dallington?

The Dallington’s design is Scandi-inspired so it features elements of this style’s simplicity and slim lines but we added a contemporary warmth and playfulness through bold artwork, abstract patterns, darker woods and design detailing like ripples and curves. We anticipate this mix of energy and elegance will appeal to first-time buyers, couples and new families.

What colours and textures did you use?

The initial inspiration actually originated from the development’s brochure! As you might expect, this has a strong waterside connection, so we wanted to draw on those natural bluey greens typically found along a canal. The finished result blends blues, creams, a terracotta clay and black as a striking, modern interpretation of this. We’ve then paired this palette with walnut woods and boucle fabric to soften the appearance and create a relaxed, homely vibe.

What are your favourite features of the design?

We’ve used a variety of different wall treatments in the Dallington, all of which are easy for house hunters to replicate. In the living room, acoustic wood panels make a striking statement in the corner; in the kitchen we’ve combined half-height panelling with a solid paint colour; and in the guest bedroom we’ve added a paint effect arch to denote the space for either a dressing table or working from home station.

I also really like the artwork selection. Oversized, abstract wall art features prominently, making eye-catching statements in the living room and main bedroom especially. But then we’ve also grouped Matisse inspired pieces with geometric prints to make vibrant triptychs.

What’s the one room you can’t wait for house hunters to see?

It has to be the nursery! Soft blues are matched with light woods and a delicate cloud patterned wallpaper, it’s just perfect for a newborn. We also decided to make a subtle reference to Nottingham’s famous goose fair by incorporating geese into the design, so look out for the artwork, ceiling mobile and bunting along the crib that looks like the geese are flying alongside!
