Our brand new Elmslie showhome launched at Haddon Abbot earlier this month. Its elegant, contemporary design was curated and installed by our award-winning partners at Edward Thomas Interiors. We asked their client account manager, Sam Jones to talk us through the inspiration behind the design…
How do you describe the Elmslie’s style?
We imagined the family living in the Elmslie to be trend-aware but equally eager to add their own interpretation and personality to the interiors. The result pairs some of 2025’s most popular techniques with elements of Japandi design principles for a sleek, warm and harmonious aesthetic.
What colour schemes did you use?
The base colours are earthy, natural shades including taupe, tan, moss green and cool blue. We’ve then added black in the light fittings, wall art and accessories and rust on soft furnishings for impact and warmth. Walnut and mango wood furniture accentuate the earthy décor.
What are some of your favourite features of the design?
To bring the Japandi styling to life, we’ve used a lot of abstract, geometric shapes and prints. Not only are these patterns in the wall art but if you look closer, you’ll find them on cushions, wallpaper and window dressings too.
My favourite feature though is the full-size wall mural in the child’s bedroom. This hand painted piece depicts a beautiful street scene of houses under the night sky and is really attention grabbing. We introduced a couple of softer, pastel shades in this room and it helps balance these perfectly.
You mentioned the Elmslie’s interiors include some of 2025’s top trends. What should house hunters look out for?
Curves, waves, scalloped and rounded edges are popular this year, especially in furniture and seating to establish a softer aesthetic. In the Elmslie, all the bedrooms feature an interpretation of this trend. Check out the main and guest bedroom headboards and the child’s bedroom furniture as well as mirrors throughout the home.
Portable and statement lighting is another trend brightening home interiors in 2025! The Elmslie’s generous room sizes mean they can take an oversized light fitting so we’ve opted for a range of pendant clusters. Alongside these, we’ve added side and floor lamps that can be repositioned to suit any task.
What’s the one room you can’t wait for house hunters to see?
I really like the kitchen/diner. It’s a bright, welcoming space that’s got a stylish café vibe. We’ve added plenty of foliage and greenery to invoke connections with the outdoors, then there’s an elegant four-seater dining table which you imagine will be the hub for many conversations!
The Elmslie home is available to purchase through Shared Ownership at Haddon Abbott in Peterborough with shares starting from just 10%, you could be moving into and styling your very own Elmslie!
