Househunters hoping to make their next move to Lockview at Middlebeck will be pleased to discover the doors to the Lockton showhome will open soon! Ahead of its official launch, we asked our interior design partners, Edward Thomas Interiors to share a sneak peek about its design. Client account manager, Rebecca Jones reveals what’s not to be missed…
1. What design style have you chosen for the Lockton?
It’s a very contemporary, earthy look, designed to reflect some of the beautiful countryside and outdoor living surrounding the development. There’s a real sense of calm and tranquillity that reminds me of an elegant day spa.
Lockview at Middlebeck has a wide variety of homes so our aim was also to create a design with universal appeal – providing inspiration for first time buyers, couples and families alike. So for example, instead of styling the guest bedrooms as retreats for visiting friends and family, we’ve opted to make one a characterful twin bedroom (subtly themed with references to four-legged family members!) and the other as a multi-functional space with desk and day bed – ideal for home working, as a hobby room or den.
2. What colours, materials and textures did you use?
Soft blues and greens feature prominently and are paired with black accents and gold metallics for impact and vibrancy. Wall treatments, curtain fabrics and decorative artwork have abstract, geometric patterns while furniture choices invoke connections with nature through the use of natural woods and woven rattan detailing.
3. What are your favourite features of the design?
There’s a couple of rooms where our stylists have been really inventive. As you walk in the main bedroom, there’s an alcove just to one side. We thought this would make a great space for a dressing table set-up so have added a mirror, shelving and a pouffe stool. It’s the perfect spot for getting ready to start the day.
Similarly, in the kitchen/diner, we’ve installed a triptych of oversized mirrors behind the dining table. These really pop against the dark blue feature paint and create a luxe look without breaking the bank!
4. Are there any design techniques homeowners can replicate?
Yes, of course. One of my favourite features is the block painting in the living room. Behind the sideboard and the two-seater sofa are two painted panels with a block colour and stripes of descending widths. They’re not only a smart backdrop for these walls but provide eye catching detail that’s affordable and achievable.
